Treating Anxiety & The Pressure of trying to be “Perfect”:
Finding relief in slowing down and prioritizing your values
Individual Therapy for Anxiety
“I feel like there is a buzzing coursing through my veins.”
“I can’t turn my brain off… ever. I’m always overthinking everything.”
“I feel exhausted all the time.”
“I keep forgetting about things that mean a lot to me.”
“What is the meaning of all of this? What is my purpose in life? Am I supposed to feel so run down all the time? ”
Life is hectic and fast-paced. You’ve got a lot going on - and it probably feels like you don’t have enough time to do it all. It doesn’t help that you’re comparing yourself to others in your personal life or on social media. Maybe you juggle various roles in your personal life and at work. Perhaps you hold yourself to really high standards and expect to always know what’s “right” in an ever-changing, uncertain world. Maybe you feel like you are constantly twisting and contorting yourself to meet the needs of others at the expense of meeting your own needs. Life can feel like you’re juggling too many things and bound to drop something at any moment. You might notice that you’re always assuming the worst, procrastinating because you’re paralyzed by the thought of failing, or getting stuck on what you “just know” someone is thinking about you (in a negative light, of course).
Normal amounts of situational stress can become long-lasting anxiety when it consistently impacts your ability to sleep at night, makes you feel like you’re constantly on edge or unable to truly rest, makes it difficult to complete tasks from beginning to end, makes it hard to to focus for longer than a few minutes, and challenges your ability to view problems realistically. Anxiety can be accompanied by feelings of irritability, muscle tension, and restlessness. Sometimes anxiety is also accompanied by intense feelings of pressure to do everything for everyone, all the time, or to have your next moves planned out multiple steps ahead. Our anxiety is really good at coming up with all the worst case scenarios imaginable… And, of course, it’s likely that your anxiety isn’t always the nicest in telling you how to live life…
Now, I believe in magic, but I don’t possess magical powers. While I don’t have the power to literally slow the pace of time - I can help you find ways to take the breath and break you are longing for. Together, we will explore the origins of your anxiety and set goals for managing your daily stressors. We’ll explore your values and engage in exercises to help increase self-compassion. We’ll identify realistic actions you can take to make your goals an attainable reality.
I want to see you joining your friends for adventures again, feeling confident in yourself and your choices, achieving your hopes and dreams, playing your instrument or creating your art again, and letting go of that which doesn’t serve you. We’ll work together to get you to a place where you can consistently engage in the activities that have meaning for you, so that you don’t look back and wonder how you could have done things differently.
My hope is that you will enter therapy with a curious mind, find meaning in the therapeutic process, and implement changes that will have a lasting impact for a life of fulfillment. I want to see you reclaim your ability to live your life without inhibition.
Here’s to beginning the walk down a new path… don’t worry, I’ll be right here with you.
