Your Questions, Answered

  • I offer consistent talk therapy through a telehealth platform for teens (14+), college students, and adults struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, trauma, and grief, who are seeking to better understand themselves, their emotions, and their relationships.

My goal is to support you in the process of releasing old stories about yourself and meeting a more grounded, playful, empowered, and equally engaging version of yourself.

Running my own practice means that I have flexibility over my schedule. I will work with you to coordinate a time for your therapy sessions that works for the both of us. Generally, I am available between 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8-12pm on Fridays.

  • I get it - there are so many therapists to choose from! How will you know who is right for you?

Feedback I’ve received from previous clients with whom I’ve worked, sounds like “You’re more direct than my previous therapist,” “I appreciate the tools you’ve shared with me, and the mindfulness exercises I’ve learned,” “That analogy or quote you shared last week really made sense,” (I like to bring in a bit of philosophy, psychological knowledge, musical lyrics, social media memes, and poetry to the work we do.) …or it sounds like laughing through the tears in the therapy space as you process the difficult experiences you’ve survived.

I value the journey. I cherish the therapeutic relationship. I don’t take for granted the wild, magical, wondrous work that I do with my clients, whom I have the privilege of witnessing on their life’s path. At the end of the day, we all want a witness to our lives. I wouldn’t be doing you any good if I judged your experience. So I work with you to witness your own life with compassion and curiosity by treating you with compassion and curiosity.

As I’ve shared with colleagues and clients alike, therapy is like hiking up a mountain, except that, as your therapist, I’m on a different mountain across the way from your mountain. Which means that I can see your mountain from a different perspective and I can help you prepare for the different routes you are taking as you climb. I can help you see the “big picture” versus the “zoomed in” scale you see while you’re climbing your mountain.

I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship is part of the process toward change, so it’s important to me that you find the therapist with whom you feel comfortable talking about the highs and lows in your life. I’d love the opportunity to be that therapist for you. I look forward to meeting you!

  • No. Only a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or physician can prescribe medications.

I am happy to collaborate with any medication providers that you are working with. I provide talk and behavioral therapy which focuses on you making connections between patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that you can make the changes you want to see in your life - usually by improving your relationship with yourself and others.

  • The duration of therapy depends on your specific needs, the goals you set at the start of treatment, and the efforts you put into achieving those goals. Generally, the therapeutic process takes time. It’s not something that will change “overnight”.  Therapy is experienced differently by each person and sometimes it may feel like change is happening slowly and then all at once. Working with a therapist you enjoy working with can help the process go more smoothly.

Depending on what you are looking for and needing, therapy can be short, medium or long. During our initial sessions, we will discuss what you are seeking from the therapeutic journey and set goals together. We will also discuss your wants and my clinical recommendations about the frequency of your visits and estimated timeline for treatment. Most therapists, including myself, require weekly sessions to start, as this will help us get to know one another and more deeply define your needs. We can explore changing the frequency of visits when you are ready.

Ultimately, the answer to this question is entirely up to you. Sometimes you may know when you are ready to end treatment before I do, and I will welcome that day when you feel ready. My job is to support you in learning the tools and making the changes you want in life so that you can apply these tools in your daily life. If I ever sense that you may be ready to end treatment, I will explore this topic with you and we will likely reassess your goals to decide whether continuing or ending treatment is right for you, in that moment.

  • Psychotherapy can help you gain important insights about yourself, your relationships, your emotions, how you communicate with others, and what you need in order to live a meaningful life. Therapy is also a tool for exploring improved coping strategies to deal with life’s challenges.

Working with a therapist can help you explore your experiences from different perspectives and, perhaps, shift your own perspective. This typically has the benefits you by being more understanding of your wants & needs, how you want to communicate with others, learning any boundaries you may want to set with others, learning organizational tools, getting in touch with your emotions and learning how to emotionally express yourself, identifying your values so you can live a values-based life, and understanding connections between your emotional and physical wellbeing.

I take a holistic approach to providing therapy, which means that we will explore connections between your physical wellbeing, emotional health, communication patterns, activities, thoughts, life experiences, and any spirituality you celebrate. Together, these things make up who you are and where you are heading in life. Exploring these aspects of yourself can lead to you developing a sense of empowerment in how you feel about yourself and how you express yourself with others. My goal is to support you in showing up authentically for yourself and the people who are important to you, and in living a life of purpose.

  • I am a cash-pay practice, meaning that payment is due at the time of service. While I do not work directly with any insurance companies, I provide superbills to all of my clients so that they can seek reimbursement for therapy services from their insurance, using their out-of-network benefits.

If you are not sure what your out-of-network benefits are, I recommend contacting your insurance provider or reviewing any material provided at the start of your insurance coverage, regarding coverage and copays.

  • Great question! I offer telehealth because it allows me to work with college students who have moved away, but continue to reside in California, and want to continue with steady treatment. Telehealth allows me to work with folks across the state of California, rather than only with folks in Roseville, where my practice is based. Many of my clients are busy folks with various activities and responsibilities filling up their lives, so telehealth has been a convenient and effective tool for participating in the meaningful work of therapy without sacrificing their other activities.

  • I do not offer psychological testing at this time. My focus is on providing consistent, on-going talk therapy. However, I have many qualified colleagues I would be happy to refer you to, if you are looking for testing as part of your therapeutic journey.

  • I do not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in my practice for note-writing, report-writing, website copy, blogging, instagram content, or anything else. I feel strongly about providing a human-to-human connection as part of the therapeutic process toward change and achieving your desired outcomes. It’s important to me that you know you are working with a real human when you choose me as your provider.
